Soil Matric Potential / Water Retention Curve

pF laboratory station Range pF 1-pF 2,9

pF laboratory station

Application

Convenient determination of soil water characteristic curves (water retention curves) in the range of pF 1 to pF 2,9 (approx. 10 up to 750 hPa) with precisely controlled vacuum.

Principles of operation

Desk instrument is integrated vacuum pump and vacuum control technique (230/110 V AC).

Porous suction plate has hydrophilic plastic membrane and is extremely high-water permeability. Therefore, rapid drainage of soil samples is compared to other methods. Dry suction plates are ready for operation immediately after simply moistening them with a dash bottle. It is vacuum controlled by a microprocessor, electronic pressure transducer and integrated membrane pump. Limiting values are set precisely and independently of each other with a resolution of 1 hPa. There is controller with a key pad area and with three displays for system pressure, upper and lower limiting value.

Evaporation of soil samples is prevented by a transparent lid. Up to 40 soil sample rings with D = 53 mm can be drained simultaneously; there are connectors for four pF pressure step modules and/or further pF suction plate modules (items 4252 and 4255/4256).
